According to a statement issued by the Ukrainian presidency, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky met for the first time.
According to a tweet from Ukraine’s president, he outlined the country’s peace initiatives at the United Nations.
I was pleased to have the first conversation in the history of bilateral relations with President of Uganda @KagutaMuseveni. I have outlined the Ukrainian peace initiatives at the UN. We also discussed the potential for the development of bilateral relations.

He added that they also discussed the potential for bilateral relations to develop. Mr. Zelensky stated that he anticipates close cooperation, particularly in strengthening food security.
It came as the 193-member UN General Assembly debated a motion supported by Ukraine that called for a vote on a resolution to achieve peace in Ukraine.
In the last year, the assembly voted on three resolutions opposing the Russian invasion, receiving between 140 and 143 votes in favor.
The latest vote comes just days before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
