Umahi, the Minister of Works, emphasizes that fixing certain challenges within nine months is unrealistic for the Tinubu administration.
Addressing the media in his hometown Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi, Umahi stated that the present economic hardships in the country were not solely attributed to President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He pointed out that preceding administrations had left behind unresolved issues such as farmers-herders conflicts and insecurity, which had significantly hampered food production.
Umahi, who previously chaired the National Economic Council committee on resolving farmers-herders conflicts, highlighted the impact of these conflicts on food production, especially in the north.
He stressed that it would be impractical to expect the Tinubu administration to resolve such deep-rooted challenges within a brief nine-month period.
According to Umahi, addressing these issues requires careful planning and implementation of effective policies over time. He commended President Tinubu for his efforts in tackling these challenges and emphasized the need for sustained solutions.
Umahi cited the relative peace in the southeast region as evidence of President Tinubu’s commitment to resolving conflicts and promoting agricultural activities.
He discouraged protests against economic hardships, suggesting that addressing security concerns would create a conducive environment for economic activities to thrive.
Umahi also praised President Tinubu’s directive to cement manufacturers to revert to previous prices, demonstrating his concern for the welfare of citizens. He further lauded Governor Francis Nwifuru for his initiatives to revive the Nigeria Cement (NIGERCEM) Company in Nkalagu, emphasizing the importance of revitalizing key industries for economic growth.
