The U.S. Embassy in Nigeria has introduced new updates to its immigration visa process, set to take effect on January 1, 2025.
As part of the revised procedure, applicants with scheduled interviews will now need to visit the Consulate General in Lagos twice.
The embassy shared this update on its official X page, stating, “For interviews scheduled after January 1, 2025, applicants must visit the Consulate General in Lagos at least twice during the immigrant visa process.”
The first visit will be an In-Person Document Review with a consular staff member to ensure applicants are fully prepared for their interviews. This step helps identify and retrieve any missing documents, minimizing delays.
The second visit will be the visa interview itself, conducted by a Consular Officer, with appointments scheduled by the National Visa Center (NVC).
The embassy emphasized that applicants who skip the document review will have to reschedule their interview. These updates are designed to streamline the process and prevent delays caused by incomplete paperwork.
In a related development, the embassy transitioned to a new visa services provider for its Abuja and Lagos consulates on August 26, 2024.
