Victor Anichebe Criticizes NFF After Super Eagles Miss 2026 World Cup
Former Super Eagles striker Victor Anichebe has voiced his disappointment following Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Anichebe shared his frustrations on Instagram after Nigeria’s heartbreaking 4-3 penalty shootout loss to the Democratic Republic of Congo in the African playoff final in Rabat on Sunday. The defeat ended Nigeria’s hopes of returning to football’s biggest stage and marked the country’s second consecutive absence from the World Cup.
The former Everton forward questioned the direction of Nigerian football, highlighting the need for leadership willing to embrace serious discussions and long-term planning.
“Real change demands selflessness, long-term thinking, and building foundations that won’t produce instant rewards,” Anichebe wrote. He added, “If we want serious outcomes, we must start having serious conversations that lead to serious decisions.”
With the World Cup dream dashed, the Super Eagles will now focus on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where they finished as runners-up in the previous edition.
