Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has firmly dismissed rumors about leaving the club this season, despite widespread speculation. Over the past four seasons, Fernandes has been one of United’s most reliable players.
Since joining from Sporting Lisbon in 2020, Fernandes has scored 79 goals and provided 65 assists in 232 matches across all competitions. Following a turbulent 2023-2024 Premier League campaign that saw United finish 8th, Fernandes earned his third Manchester United Player of the Season award. He is now just one win away from tying the record held by David de Gea and Cristiano Ronaldo, who have each won the award four times.
However, Fernandes isn’t focused on individual accolades. His primary goal is to see Manchester United competing for titles, regularly appearing in cup finals, and playing in the Champions League—something they won’t be doing next season.
Amid the team’s struggles, rumors spread that Fernandes was contemplating his future at Old Trafford. Despite his stellar performances, the 29-year-old has only secured one League Cup with United. He now has an opportunity to win his first FA Cup on Saturday, May 25, against a strong Manchester City side.
Ahead of the match, Fernandes spoke to DAZN, expressing his commitment to Manchester United. He emphasized that his family loves living in Manchester and he intends to stay at Old Trafford as long as the club shares his ambition for winning titles.
“I love stepping out at Old Trafford more than anything in the world. I don’t want to leave. This has always been my ultimate dream,” Fernandes stated. “I just want my expectations to align with the club’s. If you talk to any fan, they’ll say the same thing. We want to compete in the league, play Champions League football, and be in cup finals. That’s the standard.”
He continued, “Frustration. Isn’t that what we all feel? That’s really the only word for this season, I think. If you ask me, or if you ask any United fan, it would be the same. There were so many moments when we won a massive game, and it felt like, okay, now we are going to build from this, but it just never happened.”
Fernandes’ words reflect a shared desire among players and fans for Manchester United to return to its former glory, competing at the highest levels and securing major trophies.
