During her official presentation by the party at the Kofi Ohene Konadu Auditorium at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) on Wednesday, April 24, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman, the running mate to John Dramani Mahama, issued a stern warning to current government appointees ahead of the 2024 general elections.
She asserted that should the National Democratic Congress (NDC) emerge victorious, the government would hold accountable any official implicated in the misappropriation of state resources during Akufo-Addo’s administration.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang acknowledged the widespread concerns about state capture and stressed the imperative of ensuring accountability for those responsible.
“Regardless of political affiliations and societal sectors, there are grievances and accounts of state capture, where this government has opted to utilize its authority not for the collective benefit of all Ghanaians but to favor a select few. What is that?” she questioned.
“John and I have mutually agreed that anyone involved in the exploitation of state resources must face consequences. This isn’t a threat; it’s a commitment, reflecting the desires of our citizens across various political and social spectrums, and anchored on the principle of accountability.”
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s appointment as Mr. Mahama’s running mate was announced during a party meeting on Thursday, March 7, 2024. She previously served as Mr. Mahama’s running mate in the 2020 general elections, which they lost to the incumbent president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
