Nollywood actress Abimbola Craig has shared her candid thoughts on marriage, describing it as a “scam” during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo on the WithChude podcast.
Craig critiqued the traditional expectations placed on women in marriages, particularly the role of managing the home and catering to their spouses. She humorously referred to the title “Mrs” as an acronym for “Master’s in Residential Servicing.”
The actress clarified that her choice to remain single isn’t due to a dislike for marriage but stems from her belief in the importance of self-awareness and purpose in a partner.
“Marriage is a scam,” she said. “Growing up, my mum always told me that marriage is an institution. She’d joke that being called ‘Mrs’ meant you had a ‘Master’s in Residential Servicing.’ I’m not against marriage, but if you’re a man who doesn’t know who you are, you can’t be with me.”
Known for her memorable portrayal of Tiwalade in the popular web series Skinny Girl in Transit, Craig has also excelled as a producer. She co-produced the 2019 blockbuster Sugar Rush alongside celebrated filmmaker Jade Osiberu, further cementing her influence in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
