Bright Okpocha, aka Basketmouth, a Nigerian comedian, has explained why he did not vote in Saturday’s elections.
On Monday, the comedian explained his reasoning on his Instagram account.
He stated that he had planned shows outside of Nigeria for a year in advance in order to secure a good venue and that changing venues due to the election date would cause logistical problems.
“I have always spoken out against injustice in this country. It’s unfortunate that I was unable to vote this year. My international shows, on the other hand, are planned a year in advance in order to secure the date and venue.
” Changing my date on such short notice would have posed a logistical risk not only to myself but to the entire crew. Elections did not always take place in February. But my show was always a Valentine’s Day special.
“That being said, I am proud of every Nigerian youth who has taken a stand. Thank you to my true fans who understood and continued to support me. Thank you for another sold-out show, Frankfrut. Cologne. “You’re up next.”
