Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk paid tribute to President Joe Biden on Sunday, praising his contributions to strengthening democracy after Biden announced he would not seek reelection.
Tusk, who previously served as European Council president, emphasized the importance of maintaining strong transatlantic relations. “You’ve taken many difficult decisions that have made Poland, America, and the world safer, and democracy stronger,” Tusk wrote on social media. “I know you were guided by the same motivations in making this final decision, likely the hardest of your life.”
Israeli President Isaac Herzog also expressed gratitude for Biden’s long-standing support. “I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Joe Biden for his friendship and steadfast support for the Israeli people over his decades-long career,” Herzog shared.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz praised Biden’s achievements and respected his decision to step down. “My friend Joe Biden has accomplished much for his country, for Europe, and for the world,” Scholz wrote. “His decision not to run again deserves respect.”
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer echoed similar sentiments, acknowledging Biden’s remarkable career and his dedication to what he believes is best for the American people. “I respect President Biden’s decision and look forward to working together during the remainder of his presidency,” Starmer stated.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also expressed appreciation for Biden’s years of service and partnership. “I’ve known President Biden for years,” Trudeau wrote. “He’s a great man, and everything he does is guided by his love for his country. As President, he is a partner to Canadians — and a true friend. To President Biden and the First Lady: thank you.”
