In a recent social media encounter, Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Yemi Alade gracefully handled a fan who attempted to compare her with another music queen, Tiwa Savage.
Known as Mama Africa, Yemi Alade and Tiwa Savage stand out as two prominent female music stars from Nigeria. While the fanbases may sometimes fuel the notion of a rivalry, Alade dismissed any sense of animosity between them.
The incident unfolded when Yemi Alade shared a video clip on her social media page, expressing excitement about her upcoming performance at the opening ceremony of the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.
In response, a fan with the username @ThatNigerianlad tried to provoke a comparison, stating, “U better than tiwa.” However, Yemi Alade promptly responded, reminding the fan that “Comparison is the thief of Joy. We’re both winning… celebrate and support us all.”
The exchange reflects Alade’s emphasis on unity and mutual support within the music industry, urging fans to appreciate and celebrate the success of both artists without fostering unnecessary rivalry.

Yemi Alade is set to captivate the audience at the 60,000-capacity Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara in Abidjan today. She will join forces with fellow African artists to perform the theme song of the 2023 AFCON, titled ‘Akwaba,’ a warm welcome in the Baoule language of Cote d’Ivoire.
Meanwhile, Tiwa Savage, affectionately known as Mummy Jam Jam, made headlines this week after a clash with Nigerian music heavyweight and Grammy award nominee Davido.
