Yul Edochie Speaks on Traditional Religion, Calls for a Return to African Spirituality
Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has shared his thoughts on why many Africans are distancing themselves from traditional religion, blaming it on fear of public perception.
Taking to social media, the filmmaker expressed concern over what he described as an abandonment of cultural roots, calling it a great loss.
“I Will Never Abandon My Ancestors’ Ways”
Yul passionately defended African spirituality, insisting that it is built on truth, transparency, and fairness. He made it clear that he remains deeply connected to the traditions of his forefathers and has no intention of turning away.
Dressed in traditional Igbo white attire, he proudly referred to himself with ancestral titles, stating:
“Because of fear of judgment, many Africans are running from their powerful heritage. This is an abomination! I will NEVER turn my back on the ways of my forefathers. Our traditions hold strength and wisdom.”
A Shift in Faith?
Interestingly, this comes after Yul previously announced his calling to pastor an online church—a move that sparked conversations about his spiritual journey.
Concerns Over Premature Deaths
In another post, the actor raised alarm over the rising number of young lives lost in their twenties, thirties, and forties.
He attributed these losses to the neglect of ancestral traditions, claiming that protective spirits have withdrawn due to being abandoned.
“Many people don’t realize that the spirits watching over them are strong, but when ignored, they leave in anger,” he wrote, urging Africans to reconnect with their cultural beliefs.
His message has stirred conversations online, with many weighing in on the balance between tradition and modern faith.
