Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has openly criticized Pastor Femi Lazarus, leader of the Light Nation Church in Abuja, over his controversial remarks about women’s menstrual cycles.
A video clip from one of his sermons recently went viral, sparking widespread backlash. In the clip, Pastor Lazarus claimed that women’s mood swings during menstruation were not biological but a matter of attitude.
He said, “You are not the first woman to see your period, so your menstruation is not the problem. I have never seen anywhere in the Bible where a woman complained about menstrual pain. You are simply not a peaceful person.”
His comment drew outrage across social media, with many accusing him of being insensitive to women’s struggles.
Reacting on Instagram, Yvonne Jegede expressed her disappointment and urged men to stop making assumptions about experiences they’ve never had.
She wrote, “I saw a video of a clergyman downplaying menstrual pain. If you’ve never gone through the hormonal changes women face during their periods, ovulation, or pregnancy, please don’t make confident statements about things you know nothing about. Men, please be kind.”
While many supported Yvonne’s statement, some social media users defended Pastor Lazarus, insisting that his message was misunderstood.
One user, Angie Joseph, commented: “He wasn’t dismissing menstrual pain. Listen to the full sermon before judging. My cramps can be so bad that I sometimes end up in the hospital, but that doesn’t make me a rude person.”
The discussion has continued to stir mixed reactions online, with many calling for more empathy and understanding when addressing women’s health issues.
