Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has praised Nigerian Navy officer A.M. Yerima for his actions during a recent incident in Abuja.
The commendation follows a confrontation on Tuesday between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Lieutenant A.M. Yerima over a disputed plot of land in Abuja, reportedly linked to former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Zubairu Gambo.
Sharing her thoughts on Instagram, Jegede described the officer as a symbol of a “new Nigeria,” applauding him for restoring hope and faith in the country. She wrote:
“The face of a new Nigeria… Thank you for restoring my faith. Thank you for giving us hope as a nation. Thank you for showing that all hope is not lost. I salute you, sir. AM YERIMA NIGERIAN NAVY.”
The remarks come amid widespread attention on a viral video showing the FCT Minister engaged in a tense exchange with the naval officer at a construction site in Gaduwa District, Abuja. In the clip, Wike accused the officer of unlawfully blocking his access to the property, stressing that no one is above the law.
Lieutenant Yerima, however, stated that he was following superior orders, a claim that has fueled a mix of reactions and divided public opinion.
