During exploration in the northern Cabora Bassa region of Zimbabwe, oil and gas deposits were discovered.
According to Invictus Energy, an Australian company, an analysis of five mud gas samples collected from the Upper Angwa reservoir during the drilling of the Mukuyu-1 well between September and December revealed “light oil” and “very rich gas.”
Invictus Energy managing director Scott Macmillan stated that deeper drilling would yield better results.
The sample also revealed a consistent high-quality natural gas composition with low levels of carbon dioxide and helium gas.
The discovery of oil and gas is critical for Zimbabwe, which has recently channeled resources into the mining sector to boost economic growth.
