After a tumultuous journey, social media influencer Elorm Ababio, widely known as Ama Governor, has been officially called to the Ghana Bar. On May 31, 2024, she joined 181 other individuals in a ceremony that marked their induction as new lawyers.
Dressed in her gown and robe, Ama Governor proudly walked up to the stage to receive her honors, signifying a major milestone in her career. This achievement comes after years of overcoming significant controversies that delayed her call to the bar in both 2022 and 2023.
The announcement of Ama Governor’s inclusion was made last week by the General Legal Council through an official notice, which listed her among the new Ghana Law School students set to be called to the bar. The notice stated, “The list of persons qualified to be called to the bar per a notice issued under the hand of the Director of the Ghana School of Law is not exhaustive and may change upon the attention of the General Legal Council drawn to certain irregularities.”

Ama Governor’s path to the bar has attracted considerable public attention and controversy, primarily due to her outspoken nature and candid discussions about her sexuality, which have polarized opinions in Ghanaian society. Despite these challenges, her determination and resilience have seen her through to this significant professional milestone.
Her enrollment has sparked a buzz on social media, with supporters celebrating her perseverance while critics continue to express their opposition. Regardless, her inclusion in the list of qualified lawyers underscores her dedication to the legal profession.
The call to the bar ceremony is a significant event for all 182 individuals, marking the culmination of years of rigorous education and training at the Ghana School of Law. As Ama Governor joins the legal fraternity, her journey serves as an inspiration to many, illustrating the importance of resilience and the pursuit of one’s goals despite societal challenges.
