Liverpool boss Arne Slot could not hide his frustration after watching his side suffer a narrow 1-0 defeat to Galatasaray in Tuesday night’s Champions League clash.
The game’s only goal came in the first half when Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen coolly slotted home from the penalty spot, handing the Turkish champions a slim but decisive advantage. Liverpool showed some energy early on but faded as the match wore on, struggling to break down their opponents in the second half.
After the final whistle, Slot admitted the result left him disappointed.
“You play football to win, and tonight we simply didn’t,” he said, reflecting on the lack of cutting edge from his team.
The Dutch manager drew comparisons to their recent loss against Crystal Palace, noting that while there were bright moments in the first half, Liverpool quickly lost their spark after the break. “There was a lot to like in the first half, but it became harder and harder for us to create anything later on,” he explained.
He also criticized the stop-start rhythm of the game, pointing out that the ball “hardly stayed in play,” which disrupted Liverpool’s flow.
With the setback, Slot and his squad now face the tough task of regaining momentum as they fight to keep their Champions League hopes alive.
