Cristiano Ronaldo Chooses Rest Over Club World Cup Invite
Cristiano Ronaldo could’ve joined the FIFA Club World Cup party—but he said no.
Despite interest from top clubs, including Saudi powerhouse Al Hilal, the football legend chose to sit this one out, opting instead for a well-earned summer break ahead of a demanding new season.
Before officially extending his contract with Al Nassr, rumors were flying that Ronaldo might make a surprise appearance at the tournament—even FIFA President Gianni Infantino hinted that efforts were underway to get him involved. But the 40-year-old star wasn’t tempted.
“I had some offers to play, but it didn’t feel right,” Ronaldo said in a video shared by Al Nassr. “It made more sense to rest, train well, and get ready for what’s going to be a long year.”
With an eye on both club and country, Ronaldo made it clear that his priority was recovery and preparation—not just headlines.
“I want to be in top form, not only for Al Nassr, but also for the national team,” he said. “That’s why I skipped the offers and chose to focus.”
The decision to stay put comes alongside a fresh two-year extension with Al Nassr—a club he’s grown deeply connected to since his arrival in January 2023.
Asked about his goals, Ronaldo didn’t hesitate: “I want to win something big here. That’s what keeps me going.”
And he has the numbers to back it up. With 93 goals in just 105 matches for Al Nassr and a jaw-dropping career tally of 932 goals, he’s not slowing down anytime soon.
“I still believe we’ll be champions. That’s why I renewed—because I believe.”
