Iyabo Ojo Speaks Out After EFCC Invitation Over Daughter’s Wedding
Actress and producer Iyabo Ojo has opened up about her recent visit to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after videos from her daughter Priscilla’s wedding sparked attention online.
Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, Iyabo shared that she had been invited by the EFCC following viral clips of guests at the wedding spraying naira and foreign currency. She said the invitation came while she was in the UK, and she made sure to report to the agency after returning to Nigeria on May 5, 2025.
“They asked about everything—my background, my work, my companies,” she said in her post, clarifying that she cooperated fully during the visit.
Caught Off Guard
Iyabo admitted that she was unaware that spraying money, even during celebrations, was considered a problem.
“I always thought only tearing or damaging the naira was against the law,” she said. “But they explained that spraying money, whether naira or dollars, is not allowed at all.”
The EFCC reportedly showed her footage from the wedding, which featured moments of people spraying cash during the lavish celebration. She noted that she wasn’t arrested and was allowed to leave that same day, with her lawyer continuing to represent her if needed.
Offering some advice based on the experience, she urged, “It might be time to let go of this old custom. Let’s be careful—it’s better to avoid unnecessary trouble.”
Inside Priscilla’s Wedding
Priscilla Ojo’s wedding to Tanzanian music star Juma Jux has been one of the most talked-about ceremonies this year. The love story played out across three major events: a traditional wedding in Tanzania, a Nigerian-style celebration on April 17, and a grand white wedding by the sea in Lagos on April 19.
The star-studded affair had major Nollywood names in attendance, including Mercy Aigbe, Destiny Etiko, and Toyin Abraham. Social media was buzzing for days, with clips and photos from the event going viral.
A Trend Under Scrutiny
Iyabo Ojo is just the latest public figure caught in EFCC’s ongoing efforts to crack down on currency abuse at parties and events.
In recent months, others like singer Terry Apala, socialite Bobrisky, Cubana Chief Priest, and TikTok influencer Murja Kunya have also come under fire for similar reasons. While some faced legal action or fines, others were warned or made to engage in public awareness campaigns.
The EFCC continues to caution Nigerians about spraying money in public, stressing that it goes against financial regulations and carries serious consequences.
