Rio Ferdinand Hospitalized, Misses Arsenal vs. PSG Champions League Semi-Final
Football fans noticed a familiar face missing during the Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain Champions League semi-final clash on Wednesday, May 7. Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand, who was scheduled to be part of TNT Sports’ coverage, had to sit this one out due to a hospital visit.
Despite the unexpected turn, Ferdinand remained in high spirits. He shared a snapshot from his hospital bed just before kick-off, adding a message to his followers on 𝕏:
“Gutted to be missing the semi-finals this week on TNT Sports! Wishing the team all the best — I’ll be watching every minute from the iPad!”
Rio has become a regular presence in football broadcasting since hanging up his boots, bringing insights from a remarkable career that saw him lift six league titles and play in more than 700 matches.
Elsewhere, former Paris Saint-Germain skipper Thiago Silva weighed in after PSG’s big win over Arsenal. The French side secured their place in the final with a 2-1 victory at home, sealing a 3-1 aggregate triumph.
Silva, who captained PSG during their historic 2020 Champions League final run, reflected on that journey with mixed feelings. “2020 was a tough one for Paris,” he said. “But I believe this year, things will end differently.”
Now at Chelsea, Silva has already experienced Champions League glory, lifting the trophy in the season after he left Paris. Still, his heart clearly holds a place for the club he once led.
