Chioma Ude Joins Deadline Hollywood’s 2025 Class of Disruptors
Chioma Ude, the visionary behind the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), has earned a spot on Deadline Hollywood’s 2025 Class of Disruptors—a select group spotlighting game-changers in film and TV worldwide.
As AFRIFF approaches its 15th anniversary, Chioma’s journey with the festival reflects a passionate drive to elevate African stories on a global stage. In a recent interview at Cannes, she shared what inspired her to create AFRIFF—not just to showcase Nigerian films, but to build a bridge for filmmakers across the entire continent.
She’s noticed a shift lately, with more engagement from the African diaspora sparking fresh possibilities. “It’s really changed how I view the festival’s future,” Chioma explained. “Previously, the focus was mostly on expanding partnerships with the West, which remains important. But now, conversations with diaspora communities have opened new doors. I’m especially excited about growing connections with other African countries—that’s the next step.”
Looking forward, Chioma revealed plans to launch an official film market alongside AFRIFF’s screenings. She believes this addition will unlock economic opportunities and propel the festival into a new era.
“We’re at a point where a film market is essential,” she said. “It’s about preparing for growth—making AFRIFF not just a festival, but a dynamic hub for business and collaboration in African cinema.”
