Nigerian singer John Ighodaro, known to fans as Johnny Drille, recently shared how becoming a parent has deeply transformed his life.
Johnny and his wife, Rima Tahini, welcomed their first child, Amaris Esohe Ighodaro, on November 17, 2023, less than a year after tying the knot. In a heartfelt chat with ‘Dose Of Society,’ he opened up about how fatherhood has reshaped his perspective and strengthened his appreciation for his own parents.
“The rule I live by now is simple: family comes first,” Johnny said. “No matter where I am or what I’m doing, if my family needs me, I’m there immediately.”
He explained how family has always been his anchor. Whenever life gets overwhelming, it’s returning to his loved ones that brings him peace and strength—especially his parents.
“My biggest dream has always been to care for them and show them the world,” he shared. “They didn’t have much growing up. I remember times when food was scarce, yet somehow they always made it work—and made it feel joyful. Looking back now, I realize they were protecting us from the harshness around us.”
With a daughter of his own, Johnny now truly understands what it means to nurture and protect someone. “Having a child changes you in ways you can’t imagine,” he said. “I appreciate my parents even more now for everything they did for me and my siblings. It’s something we don’t talk about enough.”
He ended by expressing gratitude for the foundation his parents gave him, especially in today’s complicated world. “They helped me navigate life’s challenges—and now I hope to do the same for my daughter.”
