The Federal Government has given the green light for the establishment of a new Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa, one of the largest residential estates in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja. The approval was confirmed in a letter addressed to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, dated January 16, 2025.
Education Minister Tunji Alausa revealed that the new institution, named Bola Ahmed Tinubu Polytechnic, Gwarinpa, aims to enhance technological, vocational, and entrepreneurial training, in line with the country’s educational policies.
Alausa explained that the establishment of this polytechnic is part of the government’s commitment to improving technical education. A team from the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) will soon visit the proposed site to conduct thorough inspections. Their findings will help finalize the approval process.
Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, the chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), expressed his gratitude for the decision, praising President Bola Tinubu for making the project a reality. He also commended the FCT Minister for his pivotal role in ensuring the realization of this important development.
Maikalangu described the establishment of the polytechnic as a major milestone for the residents of Gwarinpa and the wider FCT, emphasizing its potential to significantly contribute to the region’s growth and development.
