The Federal Government has announced a new adjustment to the cost of obtaining a Nigerian international passport, with the revised fees set to take effect from September 1, 2024.
In a statement released on Thursday, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), A. S. Akinlabi, explained that the updated charges apply only to applications submitted within Nigeria.
Under the new structure, a 32-page passport with five-year validity will cost ₦100,000, while a 64-page passport with ten-year validity will go for ₦200,000. The Service noted that the review was introduced to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian passport.
Nigerians living abroad will not be affected by this change, as their application fees remain the same—$150 for a 32-page passport valid for five years and $230 for a 64-page passport valid for ten years.
The NIS assured citizens that it remains committed to improving service delivery while ensuring that the process remains efficient and accessible.
According to Akinlabi, the Service will continue working to provide a balance between quality, efficiency, and affordability in passport processing.
