Funke Akindele Says She’s Not Done With Politics Just Yet
After stepping into the political space in 2023, Funke Akindele is making it clear—she’s not done.
The popular actress recently opened up during the first live episode of the WithChude podcast, sharing her thoughts on the political journey that began when she ran as a deputy governorship candidate in Lagos. Although her team didn’t clinch the win, Funke isn’t calling it quits.
“I’m happy I gave it a shot,” she said. “Would I do it again? Absolutely. I loved the experience.”
When asked why she entered politics in the first place, she shared that it came from a place of wanting to make a difference.
“I felt a need to contribute, to give back. That was my main drive,” she explained. Speaking about the ups and downs of political life, she described it as eye-opening—filled with tough moments, loud voices, and a lot of lessons.
She said watching women in politics inspired her to speak up and hold her ground. “They carry themselves with power. I saw that and thought, ‘You can do this too.’”
The experience taught her more than she expected. “I became more informed. I’m reading more now. I’ve learned to speak with facts, with numbers. It’s made me more aware of the issues around me.”
Not long after the election, Funke cleared her social media of any political content, leading many to assume she had stepped away for good. But her recent comments show that while she may have taken a breather, her passion for public service hasn’t fizzled out.
