A Voice Stilled, But Never Forgotten: Remembering Big Bolaji
It’s with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Bolaji Olanrewaju—known and loved by many as Big Bolaji or simply Big B—who passed away on Easter Saturday, April 19, 2025, after a short illness. He was 50 years old.
His family shared the heartbreaking news in a statement, describing him as not just a gospel singer and pastor, but a beloved father, husband, brother, and a cherished figure within the faith and music communities.
“Bolaji’s life was filled with purpose, joy, and an unwavering passion to uplift,” the statement read. “Though we are heartbroken, we take comfort knowing he is now with the Lord.”
Big Bolaji wasn’t just a singer—he was a vessel of joy. His energetic worship style, infused with Yoruba rhythms and humor, created moments people never forgot. He had the rare gift of making people feel seen, loved, and connected to something greater than themselves.
The outpouring of love since his passing says it all.
His younger brother, Muyiwa, shared a raw, emotional post: “My baby brother is gone. Please pray for his wife and children.”
Veteran gospel minister Chioma Jesus wrote, “You were more than a gospel artist; you were a vessel of joy, a brother, and a light.”
Woli Agba, still reeling from another loss just a day before, shared his heartbreak: “Big B… I am heartbroken. It’s a lot to take in.”

A Closer Look at the Man Behind the Music
Born in Gbongan and raised in Ibadan, Big Bolaji grew up surrounded by music and ministry, thanks to his mother, Reverend Mrs. Sola Olanrewaju—a broadcaster and choir leader who shaped his early love for gospel sounds.
He studied at Subuola Nursery and Primary School in Ibadan, attended Loyola College, and completed secondary school in London before earning his Estate Management degree from Kwara State Polytechnic. At the time of his passing, he was working on his PhD.
He met the love of his life, Tolulope, during his academic journey. Their love story spanned over six years before they married in 2005. They built a home filled with love, laughter, and faith—and were blessed with children.
Beyond music, he was a certified estate surveyor and blended his calling with professionalism in a way that reflected both discipline and grace.
He was also the visionary behind Turn It Up With Big Bolaji, a gospel concert rooted in his popular radio show, and served on the board of the Living Spring Music Festival. Most recently, he appeared as a judge on Gospel Icons Africa, mentoring rising talents and proving his relevance in every generation.

As we remember him, we hold onto the truth that while he may no longer be here, his legacy continues in every life he touched.
Rest well, Big B. You gave us your best, and we are forever grateful.
