Mr P Gets Candid About PSquare Split and Years of Family Struggles
Peter Okoye, one half of the iconic music duo formerly known as PSquare, recently shared fresh insight into what really caused the group’s unexpected split.
Speaking during his appearance at the AYLIVE Easter show, Peter didn’t hold back. He revealed that what tore PSquare apart wasn’t just internal disagreements—it was the constant pressure from the outside. According to him, fans often made things worse by comparing him to his twin brother, Paul, and treating one as better than the other.
“People kept picking sides. Always saying one of us was better than the other. That kind of thing can mess with your head,” he said during his set. “Eventually, it got to one of us, and everything started falling apart.”
But that’s not all Peter had to say.
In a more personal turn, he recently spoke out about enduring two decades of betrayal and hurt from within his own family. His remarks followed his testimony in an ongoing case involving his elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye.
The case, currently before the Federal High Court in Lagos, involves serious allegations of financial misconduct. Jude and his company, Northside Music Limited, are facing charges linked to the mismanagement of earnings from the PSquare days—an amount said to be in the billions of naira and millions in foreign currency.
Peter also shared a powerful message on social media. On April 15, he posted on Instagram that no one should suffer in silence, especially when mistreatment comes from family. He spoke about the importance of protecting one’s peace and mental wellbeing, saying he had remained quiet for 20 years—but not anymore.
“Family isn’t just blood,” he wrote. “If they betray you, ignore your pain, or treat you unfairly—they’re not really your family. My peace of mind comes first now.”
Peter’s words struck a chord with many, serving as both a reflection on fame and a reminder that personal boundaries matter—even with family.
