Veteran Nollywood actor Fabian Adibe, fondly remembered for his role in the television adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, has passed away after a brief illness.
The news was first shared on Wednesday by journalist and Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards founder, Seun Oloketuyi. A day later, Adibe’s daughter, Nkechi, confirmed the sad development in a heartfelt Instagram post, describing her father as “the best dad anyone could think of,” while praying for his eternal rest.
Born on December 1, 1943, in Owerri, Imo State, Fabian Adibe carved a respected place for himself in Nigeria’s film and television history. A graduate of Theatre Arts from the University of Ibadan, he received formal training that laid the foundation for his remarkable career.
His breakthrough came in 1987 with the NTA series Things Fall Apart, where his performance left a lasting mark on Nigerian audiences and secured his place in the cultural memory of the nation.
Over the years, Adibe built an impressive filmography, appearing in countless productions that showcased his range and versatility. Some of his standout works include Broken Plate, Evil Desire, Peacemaker, Oke Belgium, The Prince and The Princess, Honourable, Billionaires Club, and Fire On The Mountain.
With his passing, Nollywood has lost not just a talented actor, but a cultural icon whose contributions will be remembered for generations.
