Lionel Messi Reflects on His Time at PSG, Shares Excitement for Inter Miami’s Future
Football legend Lionel Messi has opened up about his time at Paris Saint-Germain, revealing that his two years with the club were not as enjoyable as he had hoped.
Messi, who moved to PSG in 2021 after a historic 21-year run with Barcelona, scored 32 goals and provided 35 assists in 76 appearances before making the switch to Major League Soccer with Inter Miami, a club partly owned by David Beckham.
In a recent conversation with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner reflected on his journey:
“Coming to Inter Miami felt like the right move. My time in Paris didn’t go as I expected. I had to leave Barcelona quickly, and the transition was tough. Those two years were not enjoyable for me. I struggled to adapt to the training, the matches, and the overall experience.”
Messi also touched on the change in his relationship with PSG fans, acknowledging that some supporters’ views shifted during his final months at the club.
Since joining Inter Miami, the Argentine star has made a massive impact, recording 36 goals and 20 assists in 42 appearances. Looking ahead, he expressed excitement about Miami hosting the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, which will feature teams like PSG, Manchester City, and Chelsea.
“Having the tournament here is a big moment for us and for MLS. It’s a great chance to showcase the league and attract more players. The growth of football in this country is something special, and I’m happy to be part of it,” Messi shared.
