Don Jazzy has never been shy about showing love to fellow artists, but in a recent chat, the Mavin Records boss opened up about a few names he wishes he had added to his label’s roster.
With his signature honesty, he admitted that not signing Simi and Teni still lingers in his mind. “I really like Simi. I didn’t sign her—I wish I did,” he shared. “Same with Teni. She’s amazing. That one stings too.”
He also recalled passing up the opportunity to work with Davido, though with no hard feelings. According to him, “I had the chance, but I figured Davido was going to make it regardless. And look at him now.”
On the topic of Wizkid, Don Jazzy revealed it wasn’t even a matter of choice—Wiz was already under the guidance of Banky W by the time their paths crossed. “That would’ve been something else,” he said with a smile.
He also spoke briefly about a nearly-signed deal with Falz, one that came close but didn’t quite make it over the line.
Reflecting on these near misses, Don Jazzy simply said, “You can’t sign everyone—even when they’re incredibly talented. It’s just the way things go.”
