Jonathan and Saraki Reflect on the Legacy of Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, 15 Years On
It’s been fifteen years since the passing of Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, and his memory remains etched in the hearts of many—especially those who worked closely with him. Among them, former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Senate President Bukola Saraki have spoken warmly about Yar’Adua’s unwavering dedication to serving the nation.
In a heartfelt tribute on Monday, Jonathan remembered Yar’Adua not just as a leader, but as a patriot who deeply believed in justice and unity. He described their time working together as a shared mission to create a more inclusive and fair Nigeria.
“He lived a life of service,” Jonathan said. “Whether as a teacher, a state governor, or president, he led with principle—grounded in accountability, fairness, and the rule of law. Even though his time as president was brief, it left a lasting impact.”
Jonathan called Yar’Adua’s leadership a model of what governance should look like—focused on reconciliation, peace, and progress.
“I remember him today not only as a leader but as a friend and brother. He was committed to building a democracy rooted in fairness and national unity,” Jonathan added.
Bukola Saraki also offered his reflections, noting Yar’Adua’s quiet strength and thoughtful leadership. For Saraki, the late president was someone who led by example, with a deep sense of responsibility and humility.
“Yar’Adua wasn’t loud, but his actions spoke volumes,” Saraki said. “He proved that real leadership isn’t about showmanship or titles—it’s about doing the work and serving the people.”
As Nigeria marks another year since Yar’Adua’s passing, these tributes serve as a reminder of a leader who brought calm, purpose, and sincerity to public office.
Saraki concluded his message with a prayer: “May Almighty Allah continue to grant him peace and a place among the righteous.”
