The official invitations for King Charles III’s coronation have been issued, and they include a hint as to what Queen Consort Camila’s title will be on May 6.
The invitation, designed by Andrew Jamieson, is true to form and tradition, with symbols of Charles and Camilla’s new roles in the monarchy.
“The Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III & Queen Camilla By Command of the King The Earl Marshall is Directed to Invite,” the invitation reads at the top. The middle section of the invitation is left blank to accommodate the guest’s name.
2,000 people are expected to attend the ceremony on May 6 at The Abbey Church of Westminster in London.
The invitation also includes artwork that adds a personal touch as well as a nod to their upcoming roles as King and Queen.
“Central to the design is the motif of the Green Man, an ancient figure from British folklore, symbolic of spring and rebirth, to celebrate the new reign,” according to Buckingham Palace. The Green Man’s shape, crowned in natural foliage, is composed of oak, ivy, and hawthorn leaves, as well as the emblematic flowers of the United Kingdom.”
“The British wildflower meadow bordering the invitation contains lily of the valley, cornflowers, wild strawberries, dog roses, bluebells, and a sprig of rosemary for remembrance, as well as wildlife such as a bee, butterfly, ladybird, wren, and robin.” Flowers appear in threes, symbolizing The King became the third monarch of his name,” the release continues before delving deeper into the design. “Among the flowers are lions, unicorns, and boars taken from Their Majesties’ coats of arms.” Following her installation as a Royal Lady of the Order of the Garter last summer, Her Majesty’s arms are now surrounded by the Garter.”
A new photo of the soon-to-be crowned couple, taken in the Blue Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace last month, was also released.
When discussing then-Prince Charles’ ascension to the throne before her death in September, Queen Elizabeth II expressed her wishes for Camilla to become Queen Consort.
“When, in due course, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service,” the late Queen said in her Platinum Jubilee message.
“I was blessed to have a partner willing to carry out the role of consort and make the sacrifices that go with it,” she continued. “I saw my own mother play this role during my father’s reign.”
It remains to be seen how Camila’s official new title will be bestowed upon her at the coronation next month.
