Timaya Shares Thoughts on Eedris Abdulkareem and Industry Respect
Nigerian music sensation Timaya has expressed his views on why fellow artist Eedris Abdulkareem isn’t widely respected in the music industry, attributing it to his outspoken nature.
Speaking during an interview on Naija FM in Lagos, the interviewer noted that both Timaya and Eedris are often seen as intimidating figures in the music world.
In response, Timaya said, “I don’t talk like Eedris. I don’t behave like him. People aren’t afraid of him because he talks too much. He has always been a talkative.”
The “Dem Mama” hitmaker explained that his approach to earning respect stems from self-discipline. “I don’t want people to be afraid of me. I respect myself so that others will respect me,” he added.
Addressing his past connection with Eedris, Timaya clarified that they never had any personal issues. “It was simply a boss-and-apprentice relationship. Back then, I doubt he even knew my name. I only give him credit because he played a role in my success story. But we don’t have a reason to communicate now.”
Reflecting on his time working in Eedris’ band, Timaya remarked, “When you have people serving under you, don’t act like you’re just tolerating them. Treat them like family because you never know what tomorrow holds.”
The candid revelation offers a glimpse into Timaya’s philosophy of mutual respect and the lessons he’s carried from his early days in the industry.
