Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of Ghana’s opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged Ghanaians to be skeptical of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 slogan, “It is possible,” asserting that the ruling party cannot fulfill its promises.
Addressing female media professionals in Accra, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang criticized the NPP’s performance, highlighting recent issues like the protests by pensioner bondholders at the Finance Ministry seeking their payments.
“At a time when pensioners are picketing at the Finance Ministry and facing financial hardships, it’s crucial to scrutinize the NPP’s slogan. They didn’t foresee these struggles, but they became a reality. So, when you hear ‘it is possible,’ think about what it truly means,” she said.
She encouraged Ghanaians to critically evaluate the NPP’s promises, emphasizing that the current challenges, including financial difficulties faced by the elderly, reflect poorly on the ruling party’s administration.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang dismissed claims that the NDC lacks ideas and vision, highlighting the inclusiveness of their manifesto. “Our manifesto is for everyone, including journalists and women. We engage with all groups to understand their concerns and address them effectively,” she said.
She stressed the importance of understanding the issues faced by women, saying, “We need to know what worries women, and if we don’t talk to them as a group, how will we know? It’s not about lacking ideas; we are a serious party. That’s why we engage with everyone.”
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to governing with a clear and inclusive vision, ensuring that all voices are heard and addressed.
