President Tinubu Visits Benue Following Tragic Attack
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in Makurdi on Wednesday afternoon to pay a condolence visit to Benue State, following a devastating attack in the Yelewata community of Guma Local Government Area that claimed the lives of over 200 residents.
Touching down at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Makurdi at 12:58 p.m., the President was received by high-ranking officials, including Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia.
Welcoming him also were Senator Abba Moro, federal lawmakers representing the state, North Central governors, and other senior government officials—reflecting the seriousness of the crisis and the federal government’s commitment to addressing the security challenges in the region.
After arriving, President Tinubu headed to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, where he met with survivors of the attack. Accompanied by Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, the President offered words of encouragement and support to those affected.
The attack on Yelewata, carried out during the night by suspected armed herdsmen, is among the deadliest incidents recorded in the state in recent times.
Later today, the President is expected to engage in a closed-door town hall meeting at the Benue State Government House. The gathering will include political leaders, traditional rulers, security officials, and members of civil society. The goal: to explore long-term solutions to the ongoing violence and chart a path toward lasting peace in the region.
