President Tinubu Pays Tribute to Pope Francis
President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Pope Francis, joining Christians worldwide in mourning the passing of a spiritual leader who touched countless lives.
In his message, the President described the late Pope as a “servant of God with a heart for the poor” and “a voice of reason in troubled times.” He reflected on how the Pope’s death, coming just after Easter, carries spiritual weight—symbolizing a return to his Creator in a season of hope.
President Tinubu acknowledged the Pope’s unwavering devotion to compassion and justice, saying he was a beacon of peace who led by example. From his advocacy for the vulnerable to his efforts in protecting the planet, Pope Francis called the world to act with love and responsibility.
“He reminded us that the faces of the poor, the displaced, and the forgotten were sacred, and he encouraged us to embrace them with dignity and care,” the President shared.
He also praised the Pope’s role in uniting people across borders and faiths, calling him a bridge-builder in a time often marked by division.
President Tinubu recalled watching the Pope’s final Easter appearance, feeling a sense of gratitude as the Pontiff delivered blessings from St. Peter’s Basilica. “It was a comfort to see him, even briefly. Just a day later, he returned home to his Maker.”
While grieving the loss, the President urged everyone to carry forward the Pope’s legacy—not through words alone, but through kindness, mercy, and justice. “We honor him by caring for each other, healing our communities, and defending the dignity of every human life.”
He closed his tribute by offering condolences on behalf of the Nigerian people to the Catholic Church and believers around the globe.
“May the soul of His Holiness, who gave his all in service to humanity, find eternal peace.”
