President Ruto Touches Down in China for High-Level State Visit
President William Ruto has landed in Beijing for a four-day official visit, answering a personal invitation from President Xi Jinping.
Traveling with him are First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto and several top officials, signaling the importance of the trip for both countries. On arrival at Beijing Daxing International Airport, President Ruto was warmly welcomed by China’s Transport Minister Liu Wei, alongside Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who is also in charge of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs.
This marks President Ruto’s third trip to China since he took office in 2022. His previous visits included major global gatherings: the Third Belt and Road Forum in October 2023 and the China-Africa Cooperation Summit in September 2024.
During this latest visit, the focus will be on deepening collaboration between Kenya and China. Key topics on the table include infrastructure development, partnerships among nations of the Global South, regional stability, and other pressing global challenges.
China has long been a partner in Kenya’s development journey. From the Standard Gauge Railway to the Nairobi Expressway, the Lamu Port, and the Kipevu Oil Terminal, several landmark projects have been made possible through this cooperation.
As talks unfold, both sides are expected to explore new ways to build on their shared goals and long-standing ties.
