Paris Saint-Germain pulled off a dramatic comeback to beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 on penalties and lift the 2025 UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night.
Tottenham, under the guidance of Thomas Frank, looked set to claim the trophy after racing into a two-goal lead. Micky Van de Ven struck first in the 39th minute with a tidy close-range finish, and Cristian Romero doubled the advantage just three minutes into the second half with a powerful header from a set piece.
For most of the match, Spurs appeared in control and on the verge of their second European title in three months. But PSG had other ideas. Lee Kang-In sparked the turnaround in the 85th minute, slotting home after a slick exchange at the edge of the box. Deep into stoppage time, substitute Gonçalo Ramos rose highest to nod in a 94th-minute equaliser, sending the contest straight to penalties.
The shootout began shakily for PSG when Vitinha fired wide, but Tottenham failed to capitalise as Van de Ven’s effort was saved by Lucas Chevalier. Mathys Tel later missed for Spurs, dragging his shot off target, before Nuno Mendes coolly converted the decisive penalty to seal the win for the French champions.
The result denied Frank his first trophy with Spurs and added another memorable European chapter to PSG’s history.
