Trump and Putin Discuss Ending Ukraine War in “Productive” Call
Former U.S. President Donald Trump described his conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin as “lengthy and highly productive,” stating that they both agreed to start negotiations aimed at resolving the Ukraine conflict immediately.
Sharing the update on Truth Social, Trump revealed that both leaders extended invitations to visit each other’s countries. He also mentioned his intention to contact Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky right away to brief him on the discussion.
The Kremlin confirmed the call lasted about 90 minutes and described it as a step toward cooperation. Putin reportedly expressed optimism about finding a long-term resolution to the war and invited Trump to Moscow for further talks.
This conversation followed a recent prisoner exchange, in which the U.S. secured the release of American teacher Marc Fogel, while Russia regained custody of cryptocurrency figure Alexander Vinnik.
Trump, in his statement, commended Putin and noted that the Russian leader even referenced his campaign slogan, “COMMON SENSE.” He emphasized that both sides agreed on the urgency of stopping the ongoing casualties in the conflict.
“We have committed to working closely together, including visits to each other’s nations,” Trump stated. “Our teams will begin negotiations immediately, and I will be reaching out to President Zelensky to update him on the discussion.”
Trump also announced that he had appointed key figures, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, and Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, to lead the negotiations. He expressed confidence that the talks would yield positive results.
