Veteran Nollywood actor Lalude recently shared a moment that left him feeling disappointed—and it involved someone he once welcomed into the industry.
Speaking on Behind the Fame: African A-List, Lalude recalled attending an event hosted by Olayemi Olayinka, where he and actress Sola Sobowale were both present. According to him, Sola’s decision not to greet or acknowledge him at the show left a sting he didn’t expect.
“I was there, and I knew she was too,” he said. “But she didn’t say hello—not even a nod. That really got to me.”
What made the moment even more painful for Lalude was the history they shared. He explained that he met Sola early in her acting journey—back when she was introduced to him during rehearsals for Jide Kosoko’s stage production, Ogun Awoyaya, at the National Theatre.
“She wasn’t a star then—just someone trying to break into acting,” he added. “I welcomed her. I showed her kindness. So for her to act like I wasn’t even there… it hurt.”
Lalude also dismissed the perception that Sobowale’s time abroad has made her unreachable or above others in the industry. “She’s not even older than me,” he noted. “And despite the lifestyle people think she has overseas, real wealth isn’t just about location or appearances.”
For Lalude, the issue isn’t pride—it’s about respect. A simple greeting, he said, would have gone a long way.
