South South APC Leaders Back Tinubu for Second Term at Benin Gathering
Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria’s South South region have publicly declared their support for President Bola Tinubu to seek a second term in office.
The announcement came during an APC stakeholders meeting held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, in Benin City, Edo State. The event brought together key figures from across the region, signaling a united front within the party.
Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State played host, and according to his media aide, Fred Itua, the session was not just about politics—it was a show of solidarity.
Among those present were Senator Adams Oshiomhole, Minister Abubakar Momoh, Cross River Governor Bassey Edet Otu, and former Bayelsa Governor Timipre Sylva. Others included the head of the NDDC, Samuel Ogbuku, and various top officials from Edo State, including Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa and Speaker Blessing Agbebaku.
Speaker after speaker voiced confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership, commending the direction of current national reforms. From student loan programs to tax relief for low-income earners, the consensus was that Tinubu’s policies were delivering tangible results.
Governor Okpebholo himself was vocal in his admiration, describing Tinubu as a leader with vision and backbone.
“Some things that once felt impossible are being tackled head-on,” he said. “His policies have made it easier for us to do real work on the ground.”
He also praised the rare show of unity among South South governors who gathered under one roof to discuss national development—a moment he described as unprecedented.
Reaffirming his earlier political promise, Okpebholo pledged to secure 2.5 million votes for Tinubu in Edo State come 2027. He brushed off opposition criticism, pointing to infrastructure projects already underway, including roadworks in Uhunmwonde that had been neglected for years.
“This progress wouldn’t be possible without the support of the president,” he added.
At the end of the day, the message was clear: the APC in the South South is gearing up early, and they’re rallying behind Tinubu for what they believe should be a second term.
