On Sunday, King Charles will attend a music concert at Windsor Castle featuring singers Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Andrea Bocelli, following street parties across the United Kingdom to mark his coronation.
Charles and his wife Camilla were crowned at London’s Westminster Abbey on Saturday amid scenes of pomp and pageantry in Britain’s biggest ceremonial event in 70 years, embracing ancient tradition and elements of modernity.
The royals have not been seen since the coronation when they appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, but senior members will be out in force on Sunday.
The king’s younger brother, Prince Edward, his sister Princess Anne and Princess Beatrice, and Princess Eugenie, the daughter of Charles’ other brother, Prince Andrew, will all attend ‘Big Lunch’ events, joining some of the estimated 50,000 street parties taking place across the country.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will also be present at the coronation lunch, which will be attended by Ukrainian families and youth groups.
“Come rain or shine, thousands of friends and neighbors will gather this weekend at street parties and community events across the UK to hang the bunting, pour the tea, and cut the cake,” he said in a statement.
Later, the newly-crowned Charles and Camilla, as well as other senior royals, will attend the “Coronation Concert” at Windsor, the king’s palace west of London, in front of 20,000 members of the public and invited guests.
Take That, Nigerian singer-songwriter Tiwa Savage, and pianist Lang Lang will perform, as will Hollywood actor Tom Cruise, British actor Joan Collins, and Winnie the Pooh.
It will also include a “Lighting up the Nation” display, which will include projections and laser displays illuminating landmarks and natural beauty areas across the country.
