President Tinubu Holds Closed-Door Meeting with Senate President Akpabio
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently in a closed-door meeting with Senate President Godswill Akpabio at the presidential residence in Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.
Reports indicate that Akpabio’s convoy was stationed outside the Villa on Wednesday evening, while several other vehicles were seen entering. However, journalists were not granted access, making it unclear who else was in attendance.
This high-level discussion follows a Senate resolution summoning intelligence chiefs over allegations made by U.S. Congressman Perry Scott. The lawmaker claimed that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) had been involved in funding terrorist groups, including Boko Haram.
Senator Mohammed Ndume (Borno South) raised the issue under an urgent national security motion during Wednesday’s plenary session. Senate President Akpabio emphasized the importance of verifying these claims, stating that Nigeria would not tolerate any foreign entity supporting terrorism within its borders.
The Senate’s investigation could have significant implications for Nigeria’s relationship with USAID and broader counterterrorism strategies moving forward.
