Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has finally spoken openly about her long-standing feud with fellow singer Seyi Shay, shedding light on what really happened during their viral 2021 salon encounter.
The confrontation, which became one of the most talked-about celebrity moments that year, showed Tiwa confronting Seyi over their strained relationship — a tension that had been brewing for years.
Their fallout reportedly began in 2017 after Seyi Shay appeared to take a swipe at Tiwa in her verse during Kizz Daniel’s viral “Fvck You” challenge. What started as lyrical shade eventually turned into years of quiet rivalry and public tension.
Speaking on OffAir with Gbemi and Toolz, Tiwa explained that the misunderstanding stemmed from a diss track and claims that she had tried to block opportunities for other female artistes — an allegation she firmly denied.
“If you do something to me, I’ll tell you directly. I don’t need to pretend we’re cool in public,” Tiwa said. “You can’t do a diss track and then act friendly in a salon. That’s just not me.”
The “Somebody’s Son” crooner also addressed the long-standing rumor that she had tried to sabotage other artistes’ careers, including Seyi Shay and Victoria Kimani.
“That rumor really hurt,” she said. “Till today, I honestly don’t know where it came from. Maybe I need to have that conversation with Shay. People said I blocked their bags — how? If anyone told you I did that, mention their name so I can address it. I would never do that; I’m all about supporting women.”
Tiwa went on to recall how, after giving birth to her son, she was dropped from a major Pepsi campaign because she couldn’t return to her pre-pregnancy shape quickly enough — and Seyi was hired for the role instead.
“When I got pregnant and had Jamil, I was removed from the Pepsi ‘Longer Throat’ campaign. Shay got the job, and I wasn’t upset about it. I just focused on getting back in shape,” she shared.
Her words painted a picture of maturity and self-assurance — proving that while fame may come with friction, Tiwa Savage remains focused on her music, her growth, and her support for women in the industry.
