Niger Delta Highlife Music Queen Ikesima Brown Dies in Tragic Accident
Renowned Nigerian singer Ikesima Brown, also known as the Niger Delta Queen of Highlife Music, has tragically passed away in a devastating motor accident. The incident occurred on the Abuja/Lokoja highway and Kwale community in Delta State, claiming the lives of Brown and six other band members from Chief Barrister Smooth’s group.
The fatal accident took place on Sunday, June 11, while the band members were en route from Warri to Abuja for a performance. Reports state that the ill-fated vehicle carrying the popular band was hired by a state government to perform at a reception in Abuja. Sadly, a collision occurred between their Toyota Siena car and a fuel tanker, resulting in the immediate loss of their lives.
The deceased individuals have been identified as Chief Joseph Ekeremieye, Ikesima Brown, Ebis Awiki, Tuku, and others. The news of their untimely demise has left the Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, and the entire Ijaw nation in deep sorrow. Governor Diri expressed his profound sadness, referring to the tragic accidents as a Black Sunday for Bayelsa.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, the governor extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and Barrister Smooth. He emphasized the significant loss suffered by the state, as these young talents were actively contributing to society through their musical prowess.
Governor Diri further stated his prayers for the families affected by the painful loss, urging swift healing and recovery for those injured in the accidents. The untimely departure of these gifted individuals has left a void in the hearts of their loved ones and the entire community.
