Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has vowed to push back against proposed US tariffs on steel, calling them unfair and unnecessary.
Speaking at an artificial intelligence conference in Paris, Trudeau emphasized that Canada will stand firm against any trade measures imposed by President Donald Trump that could harm both countries.
“These tariffs are completely unjustified, and Canadians will respond strongly if needed,” he stated.
Trudeau stressed Canada’s close relationship with the United States and expressed concerns about the negative economic impact such tariffs would have on both nations. He confirmed that discussions with the US administration would continue in an effort to address the issue.
“We are the United States’ closest ally,” he said. “Over the coming weeks, we will work to demonstrate how these tariffs are damaging to both Americans and Canadians.”
Last month, Trump moved forward with plans to impose a 25 percent tariff on steel and aluminum imports, escalating trade tensions despite global warnings. Additionally, he hinted at the possibility of further tariffs on automobiles, pharmaceuticals, and computer chips.
