Waje Clears the Air on M.I Dating Rumors and Speaks on Her Ideal Man
For years, fans have speculated about a possible romance between Nigerian music powerhouse Waje and rapper M.I Abaga, thanks to their undeniable chemistry in hit collaborations like One Naira. But now, Waje has finally set the record straight.
During her appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast, the singer laughed off the long-standing rumors, explaining that the supposed “romance” was nothing more than artistic chemistry.
“Because of the rollout and romantic theme of One Naira, many thought M.I and I were dating,” she said. “But we never did. We were just friends who saw how beautiful a love story could sound in a song, so we created characters that fit the emotion. Funny enough, his girlfriend at the time did the voice-over, not me.”
Beyond addressing old rumors, Waje got candid about her views on love, success, and relationships. The 45-year-old singer, who’s also a mother, made it clear that she’s past the stage of “building from scratch” with a man.
“I can’t marry someone who isn’t successful,” she explained. “At my age, I’m not in my 20s anymore — we’re not growing together. A man should lead by example and inspire me to be better. If he can’t do that, we can’t be partners. Success, faith, and emotional intelligence all matter to me.”
Waje also admitted that dating a younger man isn’t something she would consider, as she believes it would create an imbalance in the relationship.
“I’m very pragmatic,” she added. “Sometimes I have to hold myself even with my siblings or friends. Imagine if it were a husband? He’d probably get tired because I’d end up treating him like a child.”
Her honesty struck a chord with fans, who praised her for speaking openly about her values and boundaries. With her trademark confidence and grace, Waje continues to remind everyone that knowing your worth — in love and in life — is the ultimate key to peace.
