Davido Shares Why He Connects More with Fans Than Other Artists
Afrobeats sensation Davido has opened up about why he thinks fans gravitate toward him more than other artists—and it all boils down to one thing: being real.
In a recent chat with BET Talks, the music star shared that his laid-back attitude and openness are what make him stand out. According to him, showing fans who he truly is—not just the polished, stage-ready version—has helped him build a strong and loyal following online.
“I think the reason I have such a big audience is because I’m just myself. From the start of my career, I’ve always been open. I’d film my daily life, post random clips, just let people in. A lot of artists hold back. They’re scared to show the unfiltered parts,” Davido explained.
He also spoke about how living in the U.S. influenced his mindset. “Being in America helped me see things differently. I’m more relaxed about things. I mean, I’ll post a photo in shorts and slippers at home—no big deal. Some artists would never do that. They’d rather dress up just to take a picture. But me? I’m just me.”
When he returned to Nigeria, he noticed how some celebs tried hard to maintain an image, but Davido chose to keep things simple.
“Some people overthink every move. But I’ve always believed in going with the flow. You don’t have to be extra all the time. Just be yourself—and that’s what people connect with.”
