Former Big Brother Naija star Uriel Oputa isn’t holding back when it comes to a topic that hits close to home—age-shaming.
In a recent Instagram post, Uriel called out a pattern she’s noticed, particularly among Nigerian men, where women are judged simply for getting older. For her, it’s a mindset that makes no sense—and one that completely misses the point.
“I find it disrespectful when people use a woman’s age as a punchline,” she said in a video. “It’s disappointing when that’s all you take away from something meant to inspire or educate. Instead of grasping the message, all you see is someone ‘getting old.’ That says more about you than it does about me.”
Uriel made it clear: aging is not something to be ashamed of—it’s something to be thankful for.
“There’s beauty in growing older. It’s a gift,” she said. “I would rather live a long life, wrinkles and all, than die young with regrets. Some people would trade all their wealth just for one more breath. So why mock something so natural?”
She wrapped up her message with a reminder that life has a way of humbling us all. “Be careful what you laugh at—because one day, you might wish you understood it sooner.”
