Tyla had an unforgettable night at the 2025 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, and it wasn’t just because she was covered head to toe in slime. The South African pop star not only hosted the event but also took home the coveted Favourite Global Music Star award. It was a night full of fun, chaos, and celebration—exactly what you’d expect from the Kids’ Choice Awards.
Held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, this was Tyla’s first time hosting a major international awards show. Reflecting on her journey, she couldn’t help but feel amazed by how far she’s come. “It’s crazy how things come full circle,” she said, remembering her audition for Nickelodeon years ago. “Now, here I am, right in the centre of it all. I just hoped for a little drizzle of slime—guess that didn’t happen!”
Kicking off the night with a high-energy dance performance, Tyla brought the summer vibes to life. Benny Blanco took over the DJ booth, and the stage was packed with dancers, with even Smurfette making a surprise appearance. The entire opening was about celebrating joy, movement, and good times.
When Tyla’s name was called as the winner of Favourite Global Music Star, she was visibly moved. “This means everything to me—representing Africa on a global stage and being recognized by all you amazing kids out there… wow,” she said. “Thank you for dancing with me and believing in me. Africa to the world!”
She beat out other nominees from across the globe, including Europe and the UK. Tyla’s collection of awards is growing rapidly, with a Grammy, MTV EMA, and numerous other international accolades already to her name.
When it came to fashion, Tyla was a total style icon, paying homage to the early 2000s. She changed into five different looks throughout the night, each one channeling the era’s playful and bold style. Her first outfit—a sunset-hued mini dress from Roberto Cavalli’s Spring/Summer 2006 collection—felt like something straight out of a dream.
Later, she swapped into denim shorts for the orange carpet, followed by a cobalt blue polo dress by Berlin label Sia Arnika, which had “THE PEOPLE WANT MORE” boldly printed on it. She wrapped up the night in a casual denim shirt and a black tee that read “WE WANNA PARTY.” That shirt didn’t last long, though—the slime had other plans.
Just before the gooey green slime poured down on her, Tyla looked up and grinned, saying, “Just do it.” And they did.
“Honestly, this has been so much fun,” she said, dripping with slime but smiling ear to ear. “I’m so happy I came to party with you all. This was the best party ever.”
