Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, has confirmed that star forward Marcus Rashford is likely to miss the upcoming clash against Liverpool at Anfield due to illness. In a press conference on Friday, Amorim provided an update on Rashford’s condition, stating, “At the moment he is ill and he is not training.” He added that the situation is being monitored closely, saying, “I think he is going to be out this week. We will see.”
United’s record at Anfield is well-documented. Since 2016, they have managed just one victory at the iconic stadium and have scored only one goal in their last nine visits.
The upcoming match promises to be a significant challenge for Amorim, whose team has struggled with inconsistency and a poor run of form, having suffered six defeats in their last eight matches.
When asked about his concerns for the fixture, Amorim remained focused on his team’s performance rather than the possibility of defeat. “No, I am just focused on the performance. I am not focused on losing or what could happen,” he said.
He emphasized the importance of preparation, acknowledging the team’s goal of securing a victory against a tough opponent like Liverpool. “We had some losses, we prepared for this game to win, and we know what we are going to face,” he explained.
Amorim also addressed critical issues that have plagued the team, particularly their tendency to start matches poorly. He cited their recent game against Newcastle, where United found themselves two goals down within the first 20 minutes, as an example of the problems they need to address.
“I think that is clear,” Amorim remarked. “That is a massive problem for us, and it was not just this game. When I arrived, we were scoring one goal in the first minutes, but then it changed.”
